    confused Buying Advice - 3.0 cdti Pre-Face Signum

    Hi Guys!

    Firstly, a great web site, I have been using it to research about my prospective next car, a 53 plate Signum Elite 3.0 Cdti with 70K miles. I've got a few extra questions though which I hope you can help with!

    1) I'm buying from a Vx dealer (SLM Hastings). I have been pressing them about the timing belt, they say it isn't due (100k) and I argue that it really is (5 years and clearly 100k is silly). They then gave me a quote of £600 to have it done . How badly are they yanking my chain?

    2) Generally speaking people seem happy but is there any other particular points to look for?

    3) What should I be paying for this car?

    4) Is the Vx remap I have read about something good to get?

    5) Any other help a newbie needs would be gratefully received!

    remap would be really good to get for a cdti especially the 3.0 version!

    Rubbish for the timing belt - it's not that more than a 1.9 mate. I think i was quoted about 250 at the most...

    Thanks for that, having it done should definitely be considered then? Is the 3.0 cdti engine a belt or a chain? Once again, many thanks for your help.

    A cambelt change could cost £600, when added together with a service, brake pads, discs, and so on

    When getting quotes from VX dealers, always get at least two
    Both part prices and labour rates very, and in some cases can be quite extreme!

    As far as I am aware the cambelt is belt, and has a service interval of every 5 years / 100K miles for ECO service and every 5th service on ECOFlex
    Since you are looking at a 2003MY Signum, it should be on ECOFlex, so certainly worth looking at the service book

    Get the belt included, tell them it's a belt or you will buy the other one you've seen, right now they will be praying someone like you buys the car as it's still an urban guzzler despite being a diesel.

    the belt on a 3.0 is a total peice off piis todo small belt easy to get to easy todo so £600 is a price to warn ya away due to some one beeing scared of doing it ....

    Thanks guys, tomorrow i'll call him and say it's a full service and belt or i'm off! Still really want the 3L V6 Cdti engine though, it pulled fantastically!
