Default Vectra 3.2 GSI not starting

    Hi all,

Hoping this is something simple but somethign tells me not...

Just went to start car and all i get is a clicking noise. Various warning lights/messages flash up but nothing from engine. Central locking/lights, etc all work so i don't think it could be battery?

EDIT: Just read another thread where guy had constant clicking (relay) and had a flat/faulty battery. Can you jump start this car? I have heard it can damage ECU,etc?

Was working perfect yesterday. We have had high winds and rain up here but not sure that'll be the cause!!!

Thanks for any help at all.

    Cheers

Don't be fooled that it's not the battery.

My Rover 800 was exactly the same - everything worked but wouldn't start. Called out recovery service and straight away he pinpointed the battery.

Apparently, to start the car, you need about 90% of what's in the battery. The other 10% is used for ancillaries.

I got mine jump started with a battery pack then replaced the battery, now all's well.

According to my owners manual (2002 GSi), you can jump start. If you havn't got the manual, have a look here, page 222 IIRC.

When the battery goes on these cars it's just like an on/off switch...change the battery is my advice

Have you tried opening the drivers door with the ignition key? At least then you can get the bonnet open . I havn't got a car pass with mine but it doesn't prevent me getting inside the vehicle.

If you can at least get the engine started by jumping, that will get you to a garage. Even Halfrauds will fit a battery for you and IMHO, that's cheaper than a VX stealer.

Yeah, i can still get in car. I meant a trip to dealers to get radio code, etc as i've had to disconnect battery.

    Cheers

I disconnected my battery the other day for 3 hours to re-set the ECU. When re-connected, radio still worked, no loss of memory. Only thing I found was the one-shot function on the windows needed re-setting as per the owners manual.

If you've got the NCDC2015 or similar (not CD70), the IIRC you don't need a code as the radio memory is unique to your motor.

Have checked owners manual and it doesn't mention coding. http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/static/...13_15_2002.pdf
