    Default Christmas shopping in Calais.

Came back from shopping in France late last night and boy was it hectic !
After an over night stop in Ashford, we made an early, frosty but sunny morning trip down to Dover to catch the 8.15 a.m. SeaFrance ferry over to Calais.
We arrived about 10.45 a.m. French time and went straight to City Europe just outside Calais and OMG the place was chocker block !
After a good walk around (which took us about 5+hours,the place is quite big !) and after spending a furtune on the wife we decided to have a look in Carre-fore (think i spelt it right ?) and i cannot believe how silly people become when they see the wine, beer and spirits !
It was like a race to see who could fill their trollies quickest.
Thing is, it ain't that much cheaper than back here !
Anyway, after me " getting piffed off " due to pig ignorant gits , we made our way over to Eastenders warehouse ( & a couple of others aswell) got most of our drinks from there and they were cheaper !

    If you're planning a trip, don't buy booze from Carre-fore (?)
Checkout the warehouses just off the A16 motorway and save a few Euros !

To be honest its not that cheap now most of the big sumpermarkets have the 3 for £20.00 offers on cases of beer, and own label sprits for £6-7 a bottle by the time you add the fuel, crossing you dont save that much nowdays.

Think last time i went you were paying just over £6.00 for a case of Stella (24 bottles) you can get 3 cases of 20 bottles for £20.00 here.

I know the local wine is good value but thats the only real saving

Saying that its a nice day out if thats your thing but this time of year as you say its just madness

To be honest, it was a suprise weekend away for my wife. As i'm working long hours and nights to boot, we both needed some time together.
So weekend away and some Xmas shopping, killing 2 birds so to speak.
She had some "together" time without the kids and got what she wants for xmas instead of me buying a pile of cr@p she dosn't want/need .
+ i'm in the GOOD books for once !

We use Carrefour's all the time in spain and they are well cheap, They are prabably exploiting the British tourist's up near calais.. Might be worthwhile travelling outside of calais a bit and use a shop that the locals use.. Maybe somewhere like Rouen

I think it was well worth the trip over there, even if there were large queues over there.

Prices in Calais are not that cheap anymore.
I go over to Roscoff now and again and prices over there are very cheap in comparison!

Auchan, Grande Synthe - just outside Dunkirk is much cheaper as a supermarket. Not far from Calais but even more convenient if you are heading to Belgium for some cheap fags (I don't smoke but heard they are really cheap). My French colleagues won't shop in Calais - too expensive due to all the Brits

I always buy my wine at Majestic just on the road to the P&O ferry terminal - I think it's near Eastenders.

Yes we went there aswell, i think its the 1 next to the traffic island with Eastenders behind it. (every car on the car park had British plates on it !
There was a Tesco in City Europe that was competitively priced but still more than buying outside of Calais itself.
