Well the sun's shining, replacement engine prepped, shiny new crane assembled. Day one today - aim to get the old engine out, transmission swapped over and hung back in.
On prepping the replacement I have changed the belt, pulled the plugs to replace ( looked in good shape ) and will re-seal the heat exchanger too

don't forget to replace waterpump too, i made that mistake the first time i replaced an engine... all was good until after about 40 miles of driving, i learned my lesson and now I always replace the waterpump too (especially if it's driven by the timingbelt/chain)
That is if it is the same displacement..... I'd bore the old engine up to 2 liters and make it the same as the old red top astra 2.0 16v engine (they can push out 240 bhp NA if done up right) quite sure that the hardware would fit from that once it is bored out... you'll just need to find a good tuner to remap it taking in account the vvt bit... it should go well past the 240bhp NA even more if you lower the compression and slap a turbo on it.
But that isn't cheap and some trial and error will happen unless you can find a place that has done it before and even than it won't be cheap.
