Default Do you have to drain M32 to pull drive shafts?

Something hasn't been quite right since I changed my gearbox and am going to pull the shafts to make sure they're in properly (which I don't think they are).
Am I going to have to drain the box before doing this or does the oil level sit below where the shafts sit?

    Thanks

Whenever I pull off hard, there's a single clunk and then business as usual. Nothing else until I brake hard and it clunks again, like something is being dislodged either way and then put back in to place under hard acceleration/deceleration.
Have a feeling it's the O/S driveshaft in to the intermediate shaft but I'd like to be prepared just in case I have to take everything off.

Go over all nuts bolts to make sure there tight before stripping down again. Plus what condition was replacement box you could of got one worse than you hoped.
