If it was me personally I would try and get a mint 2nd hand one and swap over. I’ve tried contact glue on my daughters mini as that was sagging in places but it looked horrendous! Ended up replacing whole thing.

Had this happen on my old pre-facelift saloon, but the facelifts have a different roof lining, definitely better quality, so as above, source a facelift version and stick that it, will look loads better

or you just buy some carpet spray on adhesive ( that stuff is a lot better, alternatively you could use that double sided carpet adhesive tape too) and pull the old fabric back, spray the adhesive on... wait for it to get tacky and push the fabric back on... that said i need to do mine but i'm going to do it with the lot still in the car and use a straw-type nozzle to get the glue in place.. since i blacked out mine i can do that.. the material won't show any spots of said adhesive... and unlike most i got a saloon so my only option is repair ( there are about 5 left in the whole of the UK)

I followed advice from a video that I found on YouTube.

Remove headlining. Strip off loose fabric. Remove metal trims around interior lights, roof handles, etc. Using a stout hand brush, remove the brown adhesive residue from the headlining moulding. Then apply contact adhesive and allow to part-dry, according to instructions. Then apply fresh headlining fabric, which is a sandwich of two layers of fabric with thin expanded polystyrene foam between them. You need to work it into the corners and contours of the moulding as you go, which is easier said than done! Then, refit trims and headlining.

I did my own (after getting someone that knows how to remove the headlining first) and it came out okay, if not perfect. I surprised myself!

There's a channel I watch on YouTube. The bloke is a bit of an ass at times, but he's recently removed the headlining and recovered it, following a failed attempt at sticking the headlining back into place while still in situ.

    Anyway, the videos are here.

yeah i know how to do it i just couln't be bothered i left it the way it is as it's just a few little spots... i got the heavy duty carpet adhesive still but i haven't made a start on it as removing the headliner from the car is a pita with it being a saloon... so when i'll do it it'll be when it's warm enough outside so the glue dries faster... than i'll do a spot repair... see how that turns out.
