They get the cheapest brand from ecp/gsf than add 100% markup than add vat, plus working hours...
( one of the reasons I supply the parts if I want stuff done)
Probably Starline but hey it doesn't matter as for a budget brand most of their stuff is oke.... used them on various carvbrands and if there is something wrong it means the part isn't manufactured right, just take it back and replace it for another one and no problems goes on as it should.
It happens as they have a lower quality control to lower the prices... it just means you have to make sure the part is exactly the same as the one coming off. And most of the times they are fine... it's more a problem with engine mounts that I noticed the lot doesn't line up straight, replaced it for another one from the same brand and presto the lot lines up perfectly.

Unfortunately I'm all too aware of how garages make their money...I have recently had my eyes opened to this, again. Nowt to do with my car but 3 others(all fiats although different models) that I recommended go to 'my' garage. All had same faults which were costly, but reduced when my name was mentioned. My friend pointed out how/what the garage did the previous year to the same car with the same fault/fail when I was present. ...it was then cured and passed.Hmmmm...

Should have told them to sort out the tire than leave... actually they shouldn't tell you they won't release the car.... if you want to take it away there actually isn't anything they can do about it other than call the cops. And even than you are allowed to drive between your house and the mot station all day long..
And they wouldn't do that as that is and for their reputation and will loose then customers...
So next time they say that tell them you got there just fine, you'll be just fine taking it back to your garage at home and sort the problems out. And if it's only one tire they were.moaning about... sling on the spare.

.
Depends on what it has failed on, and whether they class is as "dangerous"
"You can be fined up to £2,500, be banned from driving and get 3 penalty points for driving a vehicle that has failed its MOT because of a ‘dangerous’ problem"

As stated in his answer... dangerous tyre... not tires...
So he could've put his spare on and drive away... providing he has a spare that passes.

So who pays for labour to swap the recently replaced part that needs replacing again within the 12 month warranty period ?
