The Darklord smites
Yes loyal ones, in his indignation the Darklord doth smite the less fortunate.
. What brought about such an egregious event?
Yesterday on a return trip on the motorway, the dreaded orange light of death illuminated - low engine oil. Yes, loyal ones, once again the weedy nag had consumed it's last 2 litre nosebag.
Fearing impending mechanical doom, I raised myself from my cruise controlled slumber, and pulled in at a service station.
Whereupon I discovered that the greedy, rapacious fatcats wanted £26.99 for 1 litre oil. £26.99!!!!!. Over my dead body. I should co co. How do these people look in the mirror?
Thus the bonnet was slammed, the light of death ignored and the journey continued until a Tesco was spotted. £13 for 4 litres.
The amount of oil this car consumes is totally ridiculous, but even the dark one has his limits.

Ha just get a diesel and get speed and economy mileage at the same time... you were saying it was a tad bit slow so go for a 1.9 cdti they go cheap enough
and yes transfer your new wiper blades to the replacement sorted!

I drive to London quite often, and 12.50 per day pollution tax for a diesel isn't viable!

Do you know what the problem is? Is it burning oil, or just ****ing it out some where?
Absolutely no idea.
Apart from a small rocker cover gasket weep, the engine is dry - the car is clean and dry underneath, never any drips on the ground, or signs of massive leaks.
Burning it? Well since there's no serious leaks, it must be. Yet there's no sign of blue smoke (or any smoke). Is it ring blow by? Goodness knows.
It consumed 2 litres of oil last week over 1400 motorway miles.
It's on 156000 miles now (251056km to you), but I think it's put me off having another Vectra.
My Rover 75 KV6 did over 200000 miles and didn't use a drop between oil changes.

Hello Darklord. I'm sure that I have read somewhere that Vauxhall are happy with 1 litre of oil per 1000 miles being used/burned

This is true.
When you think about it, having driven 25000 miles in the last year, that's 25 litres of oil! And that's not counting regular oil changes...
It does seem rather excessive.
What amazes me is that it appears to be invisible, and that the catalytic converter doesn't get clogged up.
