After market stereo installation
Hi
I have recently purchased a Pioneer AVHX490DAB double din head unit and am wanting to fit it on my upcoming days off work.
I have the facia surround ready and I know I will have to purchase a loom to keep my steering controls and was looking at a connects2 one CTSVX002.2.
My new head unit has a cable that appears to need connecting to the hand brake switch to allow dvd playback etc if I was to get this loom would I still need to do this or does this loom take care of it so to speak.
Not afraid to have ago as fitted stereos before but not one capable of video play back
Many Thanks

The wire that attaches to the handbrake is to "STOP" you from watching DVDs while driving.
Just don't fit it.

it needs to be connected to a switched 12v... otherwise it won't play any DVD's... it's one of those safety things and is done on most DVD or Video capable aftermarket stereo by the manufacturers...

It doesn't need to be connected to any 12volt switched wire.
I've fitted 100s of these and always give the owner the option of fitting it to the handbrake and everyone has said no.
I've never ever had to connect the wire.....the last one I fitted was a jvc 230bt......on Sunday.....no wire fitted and the dvd works perfectly stationary and moving.

Sorry everyone thanks for the reply’s been on nights I have had a look at the installation instructions but not had chance to read the head unit ones as there are in a cd so will have a nosy at them at the weekend although a few online videos seem to suggest that the head unit will not function fully without it fitted or
Some sort of relay fitted to trick the head unit into thinking it is fitted but then again I could be barking up the wrong tree

Just refitted my Pioneer head and with mine for the DVD to work it has to be wired up to the handbrake---simple enough job to do but with the travel on the handbrake lever [just lift it up a little] you can still have the DVD working as you drive--i've never used it mind-think its just a safety and legal device that have to fitted to vechicles in the UK.and the connects 2 loom you mention is the correct one--you will need the fakra cable too for the aerial-----if you get stuck I will try and help you if I can----easy job to do--everything just connects up-----Dave

My Pioneer headunit is connected to the handbrake and dvd works with or without it up. Mine also uses the ecu speed signal wire and gps so as soon as I start moving it comes up that it’s illegal to watch whilst moving. When I stop at traffic lights etc the video comes back up.

Mine is connected to the 'Parking Brake' wire on the Connects2 loom, yet it still appears to work whether the hand brake is up or not, although mine is a cheap(ish) Android unit so could be a setting somewhere that needs to be on for the function to work. It says in the manual that if you want it to work when moving, connect it to GND.
