My 1.9 past, present and future
Hi guys,
Ive had my 1.9 150 for 6 years I think or there abouts. I actually brought it from a member on here and travelled from the south of England all the way to Newcastle to pay and collect it. It was mind condition and everything was spot on.
Over the years things have worn which is to be expected but ive always kept on top of things and all the "usual" wear and tear parts have been replaced or upgraded. So far this is whats been done
Inlet manifold
Clutch and flywheel
Cambelt and water pump
EGR blanking at turbo end
Teapot remap-EGR and swirl bar
Coilovers all round
HIDS
Airbox mod
all of the above plus other bits such as alternator, starter motor, wiper motor and linkage ect...
Even though all the above have been done I still feel like its lacking power somehow. don't get me wrong it is fast but considering the Re map and EGR blank I don't think it at full potential. Gears 5 and 6 seem to be the worst ones to be in and when I put my foot down its more of a buzzing sensation than the car pulling away. It does smoke a bit when I plant my foot down
I drove a mates 1.9 120 and its bog standard but pulls like a steam train in all gears which mine doesn't have even though its got more stock BHP and a map
I do have what I think is a leaking intercooler as its wet and oily on 1 of the corners so it will be replaced with a FMIC before my MOT next month.
Would a failing IC cause power issues and smoke? ive checked all the vacuum hoses and the "usual" things that can cause power loss?

A leaky intercooler, dodgey boost solenoid, etc would cause such issues.
If you are coming to the meet tomorrow I will have a look.

I know it's a old thread but i thought i'd reply as i had a leaking intercooler and it was bulgeing top and bottom on my z19dth . Replacing with a brand new one made a noticeable difference the lag low down has greatly improved and in general acceleration is much improved. Roll on deflap, egr delete and teapot map.

Also mine was losing power and cutting out randomly, prior to a suddent cut out and refusal to restart - problem that caused the cut out was probably the crank timing pulley spinning (corners can round off) causing engine timing going to heck, belt snapping and cue 8 snapped rockers.
Also had 2 faulty injectors - 1 massively overfuelling and one with a shot solenoid. Also swapped the high pressure pump as it sounded like it was cavitating prob due to trying to keep up with the overfuelling injector.
I'd also take the MAP sensor out and clean it, when I got mine, the sensor was buried in something akin to greasy shoe polish....
I'd also make sure your airfilter is clean and the intake pipework not blocked with something (pulled a chunk of leaves out of a mates...quite how they got there, I dunno)
