Default F40 automatic gearbox oil cooler

    Hello,

Today recieved the gearbox oil. Quite a good price from Autovaux Cooler ready to be fitted. Have the pipes as well. I know that some members have been fitting the gearbox oil cooler on their Vectra/Signum. Maybe somebody could share diagrams or any info how to fit it properly? Had reccommendations do not connect it straight to the gearbox.
    Thank you

I connected the same cooler, directly to the box, using lengths of rubber pipe between the ends which used to go into the rad-end cooler. No issues thus far..

Saw your one pal...idea to fit the cooler came from your reccommendation after remap
I'm collecting info how to do it because the job wouldn't be done by myself and want to do it properly, provide details for the garage. Will be getting Haynes manual...maybe there will be something interesting to read

If a garage with qualified and experienced staff can't work this out themselves you'd do a better job yourself, I'd expect the garage to tell ME how to fit it.

I'm sure that they will figure it out, but it's always better to provide more info for the job like this. Not a simple oil change done by themselves hundreds of times
Another thing...nothing covered about this oil cooler on the forum or my search skills crap Most of us knows the issue that the engine coolant sometimes gets to the gearbox and damages it. Costly repairs follows after it.
If I dig more details out I will post it for sure and I hope somebody else will have better idea how it works to retofit the gearbox oil cooler

Well from what teapot said it sounds dead easy, all they need to do is securly mount it so it gets air flow. Then using new hose connect up to the box, as I've never looked at these I assumed they had special fittings on the ends as last time I did this on a 4x4 I had to have the correct length hoses made up by Pirtek.

No I didn't use them. All I did was jubilee clip 10mm hose to the pipe ends which used to go into the radiator, and extend up to to the new cooler.

The pipe pictured includes an in-line thermostat, to prevent fluid passing through the cooler until the fluid is hot. It would be a nice addition if you can veriy it works. Mine looked a bit corroded, so I decided not to use it and just plumb direct.

I was thinking what's that thing on the right side of the pipe...it's thermostat, but not sure how you can verify if it's working. Doesn't look rusty and no any plugs on it that temperature could be observed. Probably worth to check just blowing some compressed air through it...see if not blocked.
Going to fit it tomorrow. Fingers crossed

Gearbox oil cooler fitted Couldn't use original hose as the gearbox inlet/outlet ports in a different place. Just disconnected current one from the radiator, bit bent upwards and some black hose for extension till the cooler. Drained all the oil ( well...about a half of it not splitting a gearbox ) and 3l new one gone in.

At the same time front sri springs fitted. No more lifted front with springs from V6 vectra
Also fitted new rear tyres as the one had a splitted side wall. Another had a screw in it and air was leaking.

Been quite a good day, but everytime on repairs new things spotted and placed on the jobs to do list
