    Default help..any ideas anyone???? please!!!!

cant get my locking wheel nuts off as i dont have the key....also dont have the box it came in so cant get serial number, and vauxhall say the cant get it off the chassis number.... cant force a socket onto it as it has a outer rim on the bolt which spins....and im ready to shoot myself or the car....looked on a few sites but the things you buy (sockets) i dont think would work with this outer rim spinning

    any help appreciated

Gis3.2 is the resident expert on those as he's removed several sets of Plasma's as he keeps losing his keys!! lol

Plasma's now browsing now so I except he'll pop in a reply soon.

Basically you have to drill the spinning collar and then you can fit on a ripper socket.

wot he said.. You need a ripper socket from someone like snap-on. not sure on what size, Gsi3.2 will know for sure. The spinning collar needs to come off. A sharp drill to drill through one edge of the collar, a chisel then used to split the collar off. Then the ripper socket can be whacked over it and then the nut can be removed.

I would say you could use a drill up to about 10 m/m in dia I would try say 6 m/m or 8m/m and use a stud extractor to remove the broken thread. But MAKE SURE you drill it central so as not to drill into the thread in the hub.
If you are not tooo sure about doing it I would suggest getting a mate who knows what he is doeing. you don,t want to compleatly knacker it up... good luck any way.

Here is definitive info for anyone who has lost the socket or indeed it has broken.
The Halfords £10.99 Laser tool does not work.
This assumes you have the locking nuts with the spinning collar......
1 - Hammer a multi point socket onto the spinning collar
2 - Rattle it around with an air gun applying pressure in all directions - may take up to 10 minutes
3 - This breaks up the insides of the spinning collar and will eventually come off.
4 - Hammer a smaller socket over the inner part of the nut and undo
5 - Geronimo you have fixed the problem !!
