They don't rev beyond 10-11k because of the fuel flow limitation (100kg per hour) which FIA pushed becasue they don't want them to run 1000+ bhp for safety reasons. They already have more power than the last year cars it's "just" aero that needs to be developed. I'm sure they will fix all pain points (sound, looks etc) for next season. I still think it's very impressive what they achieved engineering wise and so long as they produce some good racing people will actually not care about sound very much.

there seems to be 2 issues with the sound that people are bluring together, to me they are confusing the sound with the volume. i think the fact you can hear other sounds like wheel spin, locking of brakes, even the sound of the pa at the circuit is great, it doesnt need to be ear splitting loud, but the actual sound of the cars, it just sounds 'flat', and as said, alot of it is to do with revs, energy recovery etc etc, the best sounding car of the weekend was the safety car during qualy, now that sounded good lol, i think they just need to sound like they are being driven hard, i think that would satisfy most people

technically they have less peek power than last year but because of the higher torque through the whole rev range it means they accelerate faster... Or they would if they could keep traction, which seems to be a problem

Yes, it's only 600 hp from the combustion engine, and a further 150hp from the electric motor. The combustion engines are very weak for F1 - less output than GP2!! GP2 is running v8s, with a proper note. These F1 engines don't even sound like racing cars. But, if they get them to sound as good as Lotus 98T by exhaust changes and whatever else -- then it'll be great. Force the drivers to rev the engines more by cutting torque at low revs.

FIA limits fuel flow that's why they don't rev higher. The power from combustion engine is more than 700 hp according to renault engine guy who said that in one interview
