Just tried my AC and it is not cooling. What should I look for to see where the problem is ?
- The fuses are all ok.
- When I press the A/C button, the light comes on but I don't here any clunk under the bonnet.
What are the basic checks I can do ?

If its had a leak and it has no gas it won't clunk I believe the ac pump won't work unless the system is charged, mine was the same had it pressure tested and it looked like it had been shot with a 12 bore, new condenser regassed relieved of 180 quid and its been find ever since
Needs a re gas probably. Quick fit do it for 50 quid. The compressor won't turn on no matter what the light on the heater controls say if the pressure in the system is too low. They'll vacuum the system out and if it detects any leaks you can go from there.
Cheers - i'll look out for a special offers etc and get it done next couple weeks.
Thanks
Kwikfit are doing an AC recharge for £29 if you book it on line. Got it done today - so far so good, working again.
They just connect up this machine with a red pipe and a black pipe and leave it to get on and about 30mins later it's done !!
I'd like to hope they inject a fluorescent dye, bring it up to pressure then check round the pipes, dryer and condenser for leaks, as well as visually inspecting all the joints for signs of corrosion, stress or leakage too. And also setting the machine to put in the correct amount and type of oil and refrigerant. There's more to regassing an aircon system than just sucking out the old and pumping in the new...
The machine recovers any remaining gas, then will complete a pressure check. If the system passes the pressure check it will be automatically re-gassed to the correct value of gas and oil etc. The machine is pre-programmed to the car it has been connected to.
The dye will only be needed if there is a leak.
I had mine done at Quick Fit over a year ago, it works perfectly and I have never switched it off since having it re-gassed.
Booked mine on line back in december and was only charged £29
Looks as though it's gone up to £49 today - just checked
Must be a winter rate
