    Default Turbo actuator movement?

    Hi!

    When I pop off the rod that moves the actuator arm on turbo and move it by hand it feels like there`s no resistant at all. It feels like it`s not attached to anything and does nothing?

    Should it be like this? Performance feels ok and I can hear the turbo whistle (while normally connected).

    Oh, and engine is V6 diesel (z30dt).

    Hello,

    Where do you actually pop it off ? From the lever driving the vanes, or from the actuator itself ?

    The vanes should move freely, so if you're talking about the half of the arm that's connected to the lever, that's normal.

    If you're talking about freely moving the arm inside the actuator, then, no, it's abnormal, as the spring inside should push really strong.

    I never risk removing the clip from the lever, as it's prone to jump under the engine or anywhere in the grass outside... To adjust the arm, I untighten the two actuator bolts so the arm can freely change angle, then after having untigntened the tightening nut on the arm, I can freely turn the adjusting nut, then retighten the other ones once done.

    Thanks! This is what I ment...I guess I`m popping it off from the point where I would adjust the movement. So I quess my vanes are not stuck then. That`s good

    Yep. So you unscrewed the arm completely until you separated both halves... Well, now, good luck to put them back together to the same exact position and arm length, as a fraction of a turn makes such a huge difference !

    You're right, your vanes are OK if they are completely free to move. They're only controlled by the arm, the actuator spring, and vacuum. When stuck by caked oil, they stay either closed giving poor pressure and power, or half open, giving too much pressure at high revs, triggering limp mode.

    Now you have to put it back, how do you determine the arm length is correct ?

    There was no need to screw anything. Just popped out the arm from the lever on turbo. I can`t describe it clear enough cause I`m just a stupid dude from Finland Ha, haa. Oh well, I`m back to my led convertion nightmare Stupid autostick is a pain to take apart....and it`s freezing here..... and ......ok, ok, I`m going

    So it's not easy to work with hard frozen fingers ?

    Anyway, if you could manage to pop off the arm like than, then it's really differently arranged than my GT18's one. The half that controls the lever is screwed to the threaded tip of the actuator rod, then it's firmly tightened with an additional nut.

    If yours is just clipped in place as you suggest, then it means there's a fixed standard length setup... You're lucky on this one.
