few niggles, front grinding noise, little underpowered, confused about exhaust parts! 1.9 CDTi

Hey all,

Ive got a couple of issues with the
vec that I need to sort out, ive had the car about three months, and I love it!
best value car ive ever bought, but shes got a few issues I need to sort
out!

1) she has a strange metal grinding noise from the front end when
going over bumps, ive tried hitting a bump one side at a time, but no noise, it
only does it when both hit at the same time, and it sounds pretty grim to be
honest lol any ideas?

2) Shes feeling a little gutless lately compared to
when I first got her, and the turbo seems to be a little noisier too, but im not
sure how noisey it should be, so just after some advice here?

3) the
service threw up that the front flexi pipe on the exhaust is blowing, but I cant
for the life of me work out which bit to buy!! so any help there is
welcome!

had grinding on previous car from the front, turned out jz needed new pads has pads were kind of worn and was grinding the edge of disc but changed discs at the same time and sorted problem , could be something else but figured gives you one option to see.

Funnily enough my front discs are corroded to hell and ive just had the new mintex set delivered! So I will try that and see if it helps! im not sure it will though as it only happens when I go over a speed bump, or a bump in the road, not all the time im driving! I thought it was a broken spring, but holt road garage claimed they checked it during my service and all the springs, shocks and everything are fine, and they said the only thing they think it could be is the top mounts. but I don't want to replace them only to find it was something else! it needs doing though, coz it sounds terrible when you go over a bump lol

Check the front droplinks or the Anti Rollbar Bushes on the front end, also possibly strut bearings?

For drop in power, you need to clean the EGR etc, plenty of posts on here about it.

Also check the vacuum hoses and turbo pipes and intercooler for leaks.

It is possible the damaged flexi pipe is causing reduction in power and increased noise

Thanks mate ill look into those bits when I get it up on a ramp to do the brakes :-) ill look at the egr valve too although engines scare me lol I just know ill break something expensive!! As for the front flexi pipe, I want to change it but I don't know which bit it is yet .... Thanks for the advice mate :-)

I had the banging over bumps to so took it to be looked at and it was the ball joints on the wishbones they was proper shot had to have 2 new ones try looking there mate

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm going to get it up on a ramp today and have a good look at it while I'm changing the front brakes!

Fingers crossed I don't find anything expensive as I've got a tapping from the engine now too! ****** car lol

Well suprisingly enough the noise over speed bumps has now gone after I've changed the massively corroded front discs!

So now to sort the blowing flexi pipe (hoping to bodge it with a new flexi section) as that part of my exhaust has a cat on it so its ****** expensive lol

Only thing is its now running like a sack of poo! Takes forever to hit 80 on the dual carriageway compared to what it was so fingers crossed that's jus coz the exhaust is blowing!
