I was wondering about these the other day cos my Bro had one for a while, are they 2.5? If so how come they can produce 220 bhp from the 2.5 compared to the Vecs 170-192 bhp?

It's a 3.0 Duratec engine, a similar one to the one in the Jag S type which produces 240 bhp as standard. so the question should be why does it only produce 220 bhp when there's clearly more to be had from it?

Apparently the German (Opel) 3.2's were 220bhp. That said the Golf R32 has 237bhp standard. I can only imagine emissions plays a part. The ST220 has N/A 3.0ltr with 220PS (217bhp).

Emissions, insurance, tax, etc, etc, etc... if they wanted to give it more power then they easily could have. I presume they wanted to sell as many as possible, so a more powerful and driver focused package would appeal to a smaller share of the market.
