Question Late Vectra Facelift Fuel Tank

Ok have I missed something here? Have Vauxhall actually saved money on the fuel tank. I had a prefacelift and I could get - if the light was flashing at me - 58ltrs with the tank brimmed ie it came right up to the fuel filler cap. This means it could take it's supposed 61ltrs (13.6Gallons).

I was presented with the same set of circumstances the other night (to be honest just wanted to fuel as late as possible when I had escaped the traffic), and the car took 56ltrs. When the light is flashing surely there isn't 1gallon left in the tank, which makes me wonder if I have a 12 Gallon fuel tank. It's a 58 plate CDTI 150.

I wonder if the fuel tank part numbers are the same and its the fuel sender/gauges that reads empty quicker?

I think it's more with the later models though. I believe the Sigs/Estates had a 12Gallon tank though I'm not 100%.

I wonder if so, so that Vauxhall cover their backsides, but 1gallon with the light flashing is a bit much. Still it would explain how some can get 50miles+ with a range of zero I suppose and light flashing.

Most likely they just factored in a larger margin of error.

    Default

I have both the pre-face lift 1.8 and an 06 plate 2.2, for sure the fuel light comes on later on the 06, that is to say it comes on when there's less fuel left in the tank compared to the pre face lift, I'd say it's a range difference of about 5 miles, that's just me experience.
