Default Got the fright of my life

Still waiting for the correct brake parts to arrive for my car, even though I supplied the correct part numbers

New rear brake pads were fitted last week, but the front pads and discs still hadn't arrived (three day ordering)
Next, the front brake sensor hadn't arrived
That arrived, two days later, but found the discs in the box were the wrong size (so replacement discs had to be ordered, and again three day ordering)
It was the correct part number on the box, so looks like a supplier issue

Driving back tonight and the nearside front brake disc exploded
I allowed it to cool and then pulled both front pads out
There is now nothing left of the disc, except what is under the wheel mounting!

I knew the disc was down to the minimum, but the removal and refitting last week probably didn't help

Waiting three weeks for brake parts is a joke
I know I had taken both the front pads and discs right down to the minimum, but usually when the sensor warning appears there is usually 1000 miles left
Last time that was four weeks and the sensor melted (resulting in the warning ending)
Only covered about 200 miles since the sensor came on this time, difference this time was the discs were on their third set of pads (last time it was the second set, so there was plenty of disc left)

Later this week, this will be the third set of front discs, this second set has lasted almost as long as the first set

so you wont put a budget tyre on your car due to the safety implication, yet you'l let your disks run down to the point that they explode?

    now im baffled.

I've always been able to get three sets of pad to discs, a fourth set is possible but I don't bother as the disc will need replacing during that phase
I didn't have any problem last time
The issue appears to have arisen after they were removed on Saturday and then refitted
I suspected the nearside was dropped during removal, resulting in a crack, as the offside one is still within tolerance
Equally, I have measured a part of the shattered disc and it too is within tolerance

I was already monitoring the wear indicators on them, and they were nearly flush (down the last 1mm, which usually lasts about 2000 miles)

Are you getting them from a dealer?

Yes, I use only OE parts
I have had this issue every time I have ordered pads and discs, usually have to wait between 1 and 3 days (discs are always factory order, but pads are usually held at the main parts branch)
I think part of the problem is they just listen to the engine and order parts for a 1.9 CDTI, not realising the parts for a 3.0 V6 CDTI are completely different
However, on this occasion it looks like it was a packaging error as the part number was correct but the discs in the box were 292mm (which ironically might have fitted the rear)

You should be able to get the Disks and Pads as a boxed set which saves a bit of money. I always ask for 314mm pad and disk set and never have any issues rather than order by car type. It seems your Dealer is next to useless if they cannot even order the correct brakes or not even hold them in stock.
