Anyone done this and know the procedure of what to do? Is there a fee of doing this and stuff?

I think you pay the price on screen ie (500) then there's 80 pound for something and 25? To assign it, I've not done them for a while though so don't take my word for it
Depends if the plate is on retention or not ? mine was on retention and i just went into DVLA with log book and retention certificate and they transferred it straight over and issued new tax disk

£80 to transfer between vehicles, no additional costs other than that. If you want to take it off a car and retain it without placing on another car £105, which includes the fee for reassigning it to another car as long as within 12 months. If you buy a new plate straight from DVLa it includes all fees except the price of getting the plates made up in the DVLA price. Most other plate sellers dont include the fees, so work out dearer than buying direct from DVLA
Buy from dvla and price you see is the price you pay! Brought both of mine from dvla, couldn't fault them! Only cost was £20 for 2 new plates
Sorry to hijack this but what is the exact procedure for this, wanting to get one for the wife for her birthday, car is in her name so is it just a question of sending log book off or is there stuff she needs to sign? Cheers
Taken from DVLA website.
What is the total cost of buying a registration mark from DVLA?
All online registrations for immediate purchase include VAT and the £80 assignment fee. This means there is nothing else to pay except for the costs of having the actual physical plates made up. NO HIDDEN CHARGES!
The prices advertised for registrations being offered for sale at our auctions / online auction sales are reserve prices. Bidding will start from these prices and exclude the assignment fee, VAT and buyer's premium.
We do not offer any form of payment scheme or instalment plan. Payment must be made in full.
Have consideration for the deaf, if you're gunna fart, make it smell !
With dvla, find the plate, ring them, pay them their screen price, includes all first transfer fee, vat, etc ( no hidden fees) they send you a certificate. The. Just take the certificate, mot, log book, tax disc to local dvla office and they change it there and then! Just insurance to change over and plates to be made up
Also, the finance company (if on HP etc.) will need to be notified when you change the registration number. They'll find out anyway if you don't tell them, but just be a little curtious.

You'd have to be the grantee for the plate then nominate your wife to give the plate as a gift,
As everyone else has said you pay what's on screen, it's straight forward I've had to retain mine 3 times now due to changing cars that's the only pain as it £105 a go! Transfer is only £80 but isn't always an option
