Default Hi All! Advice for a possible buyer?

    Firstly Hello all.

Ive been browsing the forums over the last couple of days and it looks like a great place.. and hopefully with any luck i will shortly be joining the ranks of vectra owners.

but i need a little advice from you guys / gals if possible.

I'm looking at a 2005 pre facelift vectra C with an indicated 137000km (90000 miles) on the clock.

The car looks very tidy however the steering wheel is quite worn. can anyone confirm if this sounds about right for that mileage? or if theres anything else i should be looking out for?

My worry is that i am living (and buying) in poland. and over here there is a very large problem with people winding back the mileage on cars..

the car has come from austria but that doesn't mean it is safe....

i won't mention how much i'm paying for it.. sufficed to say the used car prices here make me sick when i look at the prices in the UK...

    Czesc Marticus,

    Witam

I wouldn't worry about the steering wheel being worn, this could just be that someone has a firm grip. Just make sure you have a look through the history for servicing.

    Is it a petrol/diesel, Hatchback/estate?

    What size engine?

    What level of trim?

I will be in poland visiting family in July and hoping to source some bits for mine. I have seen a CD70 Nav on Allegro for 1,200 PLN which is approx £260, here they are approx £300-£350.

    HAHAHA Czesc!

good to know about the wheel...

It's a basic model 1.8 petrol saloon (no electric windows in the back, non-colorcoded sideskirts / spliiter, no alloys etc... )

it does have aircon and climate control though...

I will take a proper look through the service histroy and contact the last place if possible. it had two vauxhall stamps but the last three where private garages from the looks of it...

good to hear that parts are cheap here at least.. wish i could say the same for cars lol!

    Thanks for the help..

    anything else i should check?

i found the buyers guide but don't have permission to read it for some reason..

Make sure the DMF isn't rattling. Big money to fix it.

    Thanks for the headsup!

i just watched a couple of vids so i will know what to look out for.

is that a common fault? if it hasn't been replaced should i expect to have to fork out for it?

from what iv'e seen you can take UK prices and double them (and maybe add a bit), this isn't just for vectra's

no idea why the prices are so high.. I think it's more a case that used cars in the UK are really cheap..

I was looking in germany but by the time i had imported it paid the fees etc it would be much of a saving if any.

That's why every time we drive over there we always pass loads of vans with trailers and damaged cars on them going back to Poland. It is cheaper to buy foreign and repair them than buy over there.

Fuel is expensive as well compared to the average wage.

My brother inlaw imported his Audi from Germany and it wasn't only the cost but all the hassle and red tape involved in getting it registered in Poland.

yep thats exactly what iv'e found...

iv'e looked at a couple of cars so far both from germany and both had been repaired.

Hopefully this one is as straight as it looks..

also here's a link to a typical example for you wizard:

It would be cheaper for you to fly over here and drive one back if you don't mind right hand drive

Get a better spec/ newer car for the £4200 they want
