Default Adding a second alarm LED?

Given that the OEM alarm LED/switch is, IMO, located where you can't really see it from outside the car, has anyone on here added an additional LED in a more conspicuous place?

I was thinking somewhere around the centre speaker area by the demister vents on top of the dash but haven't got a clue how to go about it. For obvious reasons, Haynes don't give you a wiring diagram for the alarm system .

I was looking into this, I was just going to disasemmble the alarm switch and extend the wires on the led to centre speaker location or interior mirror mount (like BMW).

Does it need to be wired into the existing alarm LED though.

Many moons ago when I had my Mk2 Cavalier, I just bought a £3 flashing LED (with chrome surround) from the local motorist shop and wired it into the ignition switch and mounted it in one of the blank pop out panels next to the light switch. One wire was permanently connected to a live feed (via a small rated fuse) and the other wire was connected to the switched live. When the ignition was switched off the switched live dropped to earth and put the LED on.

Simple, effective, and I didn't even have to fit an alarm.

, I remember doing the same on the mk2 and 3 cavvys. Tandy stores were great for them.

I had done this on my vec b. All it took was a red led, some cable and time! I fitted and led into my mirror with the led facing towards the windscreen, looked really good. Take out the alarm switch, you might need to even remove the facia to get in to the cable. Connected up a wire to the +ve and -Ve and run the cable to where you've mounted it. Job done, It will flash in time with the centre alarm switch

Those aftermarket alarm LEDs have been around for decades, and thieves know they're usually used on cars that don't actually have alarms, so you might be giving out a signal that your Vectra doesn't have a factory-fit alarm hence why you've resorted to adding a dummy LED to make it look like you have one.
