Automatic Headlights

My Signum, like my wife's Corsa has an Auto position on the light switch that switches the headlights on when low light is detected by the sensor on the windscreen.

The Signum seems to think that the light is always low and, except when driving into the sun, always has the lights on.

Now the question - Is the sensor replaceable and if so what sort of a job is it and what sort of cost am I looking at? Thanks in anticipation.

The fact that they do switch on between bright and low light means the sensor works, or they would be on all the time. The sensor itself is mounted with the rain sensor behind the rear mirror attached to the front screen.

It might be worth taking the rain sensor off the windscreen, giving the glass a good clean with meths then refitting it. Doesn't take a lot of dirt, moisture, grease or even silicone oil (from the pad) to make the sensors (light and rain) do odd things.
