Default Mway Speed limit could raise to 80mph

Bad, bad idea -- Because the driving standards of british motorists are so godawful, this would lead to carnage.
Most already do 80mph on the motorway, and they rarely get prosecuted for it -- so what happens when the official limit raises to 80mph; every muppet goes at 90+mph and it becomes a whole lot more dangerous out there.

I do 80 on Motorway here in France, but that is allowed. Before I moved over here, I did 75-80 in England. Do not think people will speed more if the limit is increased. There will be less people given speed tickets

I don't understand why the government have spent the last couple of years telling people to slow down to 60mph on the m/way to save fuel/cut pollution but yet are considering this....Kind of a ironic turn of events, I think you'll find it's because faster = more fuel being bought! Agree with you aswell that a large majority of the motoring public are shocking drivers, I see it day in day out aswell and have the pleasure of tidying up the carnage. I think they should leave it as is

It's not a bad idea , Germany has unlimited speeds on certain parts of the autobahn, and is one of the safest roads in Europe, why ? Cause drivers know that when overtaking they immediately pull back into the correct lane , idiots that sit in the middle lane below the speed limit are the cause of most accidents !

I agree entirely, but people need to learn how to drive at 70 mph before raising the speed up. Simple things that can have mega ill effects

I have driven millions of miles on motorways all over europe and I can count on one hand the accidents that have happened at speed. But I would have to take my shoes off and my kids shoes off for the accidents that have happend on a roads and in cities. And to say that there would be more emmisions> They should think about stopping rubberneckers slowing down at accidents causing large hold ups causing more emissions. Cars are built today with saftey in mind and but if you are going to go down a motorway at 80 in a corsa or a micra and feel stable think again that the cars that should be restriced to 60 MPH.

    Yep I agree

I think a short tv campaign on safe motorway driving would not go amiss to co-inside with a speed increase to 80mpg

Its mad that motorway or night driving isnt part of the driving test in my eyes as thats when alot of accidents happen.
