    Default Steering column movement.

I think my steering column moves vertically too much when its locked in position. I've had it in to the dealer but they said that it is fine and if they where to replace it, it would act the same.

Does your steering column move up and down at all when locked in position?

Nope shouldnt move at all. If it moves, or is moved when driving, there is a possibility of losing control of the car.

The technician said it was fine and I compared it to another vec they had and it was the same. It does only move by about half an inch or so.

Not an expert, but in all the years of driving many different makes and models of cars, have i ever had a steering column that moved when locked. I would have thought that could be dangerous.
    3.2 v6 Signum and loving it 😁

If you move the steering wheel can you see the column itself move. Watch the column near the clutch pedal where it goes onto meet the rack. If it doesn't move when you move the steering wheel, then I'd say the lock in the steering cowl is bust not the rack, but I am only guessing that.

Btw are wee talking about the lock mechanism for steering wheel adjustment or the actual steering lock?

I'm talking about the reach and rake adjustment lock. I'm thinking I'm going to take it back to the dealer now. I didn't think it should move at all either but he said it's normal.
