Default Speeding ticket 3 months ago

We got a letter from Humberside Police today informing us that we'd been caught speeding and they intend to prosecute (the usual bumf really). The thing that strikes me as odd is the date, February 26th 2011. Any ideas why there may have been such a delay?

Not always the case if they can prove they have made reasonable attempts to contact you.
Have you changed address or car recently?

Weve had the car about 13 months now.

We did move house on Jan 7th but forgot to change the log book over till about the same time as the offence. I'd imagine the log book would have been back with us not long after the date of the ticket.. I'll have to check wen I get home...

That's your answer then big chap. So afraid a court would still pursue it. Dvla are pretty slow at updating their records sometimes. You might even find they tried delivering to your old address, but because it's recorded delivery (in scotland anyway) then it's bounced back to them

It's probably because its easier to prosicute normal honest folk as we're not likely to skip court.

Having said that, if you're caught speeding you're still braking the law and should accept the punishment just the same. With that in mind, I'll hold my hands up and admit the wife was wrong to be driving too fast regardless of what she thought the limit should be in that area....

true and I agree,.. but pop to your pld station with details of a theft etc,.. and they are not interested.

Then you get the other side of the coin with the bobby who pushed over that poor newsagent and killed him... video evidence and medical confirmations yet still they try to wriggle off doing what's right - they were all too quick to prosecute that student for throwing that fire extinguisher from the roof during protests,.. boot on other foot seem always different
