... Half of which is still inside the engine block.
Is this going to be a realatively easy fix? It's just let go on the M6 Toll so got trailered the 90 miles home by the RAC.
Engine is a 2.2 DTi.
Thanks.

How much is sticking out?
None, it's gone right on the block. It needs to be drillied out I think, if that's possible.
I you can see and of it you may be able to tap it round with a chisel. Is it the top one or the bottom?
It's the bottom one, access through the wheel arch. I'll have a better look at it tomorrow. Wasn't a lot to see by torch light.
Not so bad then, the top one would have been an absolute disaster as access is very limited
Yeah could be worse. Glad I heard it when I did. Had stopped in the M6 Toll services so the mother could do a loo break, left it ticking over and heard this clunk and a weird noise. Switched off, opened the bonnet, started up and noticed the belt not moving. Glad it went then not on the motorway.
This happend to mine a couple of weeks back. they need to drop the engine a little to get to snapped bolt then drill it out. Cost me £120 to get it drilled and put back together.
Seems to be a common problem (not another one!) on this engine - just had same on a relatives car - I drilled a smaller hole into the broken end of the bolt and used an easy out/ screw extractor to get the broken end of the bolt out. The bolt was easy to drill, probably made from soft mild steel which is why it snapped in the first place.
