    Default cdr2005 failing

sorry if this has been answered before but i'd just likr to check the following as my cdr2005 has started to make some horid noises when switched on so will need replacing.
1 when i change the headunit will i be able to use the six buttons on the steering wheel.
2 will all the trip computer functions still work
3 will i be able to change the date and time on the display
4 am i correct in thinking that sony, pioneer and alpine still make good quality headunits(its been 10years since i been interested in changing a headunit)

if it helps i drive an 04 sri cdti 150

tarandy, here's some answers to your questions:

    1) the six button can be used but you need to buy the correct wiring for the specific make of headunit you purchase. i have recently upgraded to an aftermarket unit and even though i've got the wiring i can't get the buttons to work...nobody else has had this problem so i think i got a dodgy wiring loom
    2) trip computer functions will work but you will lose the radio display that is usually shown on the screen i.e. the station frequency or CD - this depends on what screen you have to begin with and how much info is shown. I had the CDR2005 aswell so i assume you have the yellow screen with black text.
    3) i've been wondering the same thing, i think the time can only be changed through the standard headunit. so you'll need to plug it back in every six months
    4) yep....all the companies you mentioned are reputable and make very good units indeed.

my display is the basic one with the the two buttons for setting the time. When I upgraded the cdr2005 to a Sony mp3 unit, I got the connects2 display & steering control adapter that shows ID3 mp3 track info on the display. It also displays radio station name.

I've got an Alpine 9850 I pod compatible stereo in mine and still have the use of my steering wheel buttons. Don't ask how, as I got fitting for £20 when I bought it!!

Sound quality is superb, too loud sometimes!

Yes its the orange screen with the black text.
So all i have to do now is choose a headunit and go from there.

    thanks again.

Nothing wrong with Sony, but that's your own opinion
