    Question Engine Swap

    Hello guys,

I am in need of a bit of advice if you would be so kind .

    I currently have a 2003 vec c with the Y22DTR engine and AF33 auto-box.

My auto-box is on its last legs and well the quotes are from £850 onwards.

I have been offered a petrol 1.8 engine and gearbox with only 30000 miles on it clutch etc.. are in great condition, Now apart from the Obvious i need Engine loom, Gearbox loom, Master cylinder Tech 2 cleared ECU, petrol tank, gear stick and cables & clutch peddle, What other items would be required to be changed for this to work? I know its a lower engines and its a petrol BUT my thoughts are that i can regain some losses by selling my Y22DTR Engine thus bring back money were if i buy a gearbox i loose out and there is not guarantee it wont play up after a few hundred miles ( i know a manual could but there cheaper ha)

Thank you in advance for all your help it is much appreciated.

I hope with you help i can then go buy the bits and get started

Looking at the amount of work replacing everything I would say it was a false economy I'm sure if you look around you could get a autobox cheaper ?

Would it not be "easier" to just put a manual box on the engine you have?

its not a case of ease its case of cost. its cheaper to change engine than it is to change box to manual if that make sense.

unless the 1.8 box will fit a diesel lol

you'll have the additional cost of getting it insured and taxed correctly as going from diesel to petrol etc will alter taxation classes and may need inspecting, then theres the hassle of when you come to sell it, like yous said the engine is cheaper but when you add everything up, looms etc and tank its going to be around the same price
