loud air hissing on xcelerating! Were do i look for common leaks??

Guys ive been hearing this loud deep hissing sound from the drivers side of the car for a whilst now that comes when on boost. At first i guessed it to be the turbo as it first sounded like a whistle but now its more obvious and ive also noticed the fuel ecomony has got worst as has the power..
Now ive checked the inlet boost pipe which seems ok but im not sure were else to check??
On my calibra turbo i had before i new were to look all the time cos there was the usual suspect places ( joins in the pipework / turbo down pipe /+ all the pipes were visible wereas on this car i cant see the turbo / intercooler ect..
It would be very helpfull to know were to start as it looks like i might have to be taking parts of to get access to some of them ( unless im wrong)
Any tips would be very helpfull here

( my nieghbours keep asking me whats up with the car as they can hear this sound from the street lol)

hi there

i dont know what car youve got but my 54 plate diesel turbo did this and it was the intercooler that had split, if you search on here it has been discussed several times, guys on here pointed me in the right direction, and i got a replacement part of the net for £120 and a saturday morning labour job done.

could just be a split boost pipe have you had limp mode or out like that

Flexi pipe on exhaust I would say that's 99%.

No limp mode as of yet And no fault codes either! I have reasonably good power as the car is remapped but its not as responsive as before and theres the loud whooshing sound as i excelerate.. funny the intercooler has been mentioned cos it might be worth a check come to think of it!! The car took a knock to the drivers side front back when we had all the snow which damaged the front bumper.. ( someone decided to bash the car and leave it)
Im thinking that it might of damaged the intercooler maybe !!

Gazza! funny that cos it never came to mind tbh!! I noticed that the weave on the flexy pipe were the exhaust downpipe bends is all battered on the exhaust recently/
Looks like its been hitting speed ramps and is all ripped up and hanging loose!.
Could this be allowing air to excape from the exhaust??

Mine made that noise and it was the flex. Boost leaks usually cause smoking out of the exhaust. Rev it and I would be surprised if you see some exhaust coming from underneath the car.

Interesting!!! Just had the car up on stands and drove it in gear whilst a pal checked for were the sound was coming from! It seems the loud air sound is coming from the intake above the grill at the very front.
As i rev in gear you can hear the air being sucked thro the intake and its really loud ..
Could this be loud due to having an aftermarket panel filter fitted and the restrictor removed in the box??
It is so loud it can be heard from over the other side of the street.
Other than that i cant hear it coming from anywere else.

Is there a split or crack in the plastic funnel? Is it attached to the air box correctly?
