    Default Interesting Figures

    From the fuel computer.

Filled up last Sunday, reset the whole of the BC settings and the odometer. Refilled today (after 374.2 miles) and it took 36.96L which is approx 8.14 gallons. My calculations say thats approx 46mpg. Most of my driving is main roads with a little bit of rush hour town stuff but barely 2 miles worth a day. The rest is roads at varying speeds of 50-70 mph.

    BC is saying

    Average mpg - 54.3mpg
    Fuel used - 7.1 gallons
Range (prior to filling) 296 (after filling up - 696)
    Trip distance - 374.2 miles

It IS set to UK measures, not US before anyone asks!

So, is the BC meant to be a decoy to make people think their car is doing better than they thought?!

My thermostat is shot and waiting replacement which could be a reason for the poor mpg figure. And the fuel gauge was half a notch below the half tank, so unless I have a 70L tank, the top half is bigger.

I never let it get below the 1/4 on the gauge, try and keep it to about the half, less money out in one go when filling up, which when on a very tight budget does make a difference.

Paid £1.319 per L at Tesco. Maybe try the Esso next week, same price but will be good to see if the mpg is different.

    Anything to add yourself?

I dont go with any of it, it is very innacurate especially the range calculations.

Don't have on board computer on our Facelift Club Spec car...Z18XE petrol.....

your findings doesn't surprise me - the only way is the old fashioned long-hand method which you did as a chec....& which I've posted in various threads on fuel consumption...

    Cheers

NP. I knew they would be inaccurate but by that much?

I have a DTUK Eco2 box on which makes no difference to the actual fuel used, just gives more power when I ask for it.

I would have thought it would use more fuel, all a tuning box does is fools the car into thinking it needs more fuel and ups the pressure.

tuning boxes affect board computer reading's as well making you think you are getting more than you really are.

I reckon the BC is not that far out, seems a big discrepancy you have there.

Mine averages 41mpg just short stop start journeys. It was doing around 46 in the summer months, so it's obviously the colder weather affecting the mpg. Now that I've just changed the stat I expect better mpg figures.
I suggest you change your's, could help those figures.
