Tar!!

Before Christmas in Stewarton they had done the most pathetic type of road resurfacing going, I.E. it is a sticky black bitumen then 6mm "gravel" sprayed onto it. Trouble is it remains soft for ages due to the extreme cold so my poor car and almost everyone in the area have car's covered in tar.

so yesterday despite being freezing I got to clean the car for the first time in ages. After a very good pressure wash, and a very soapy bath. I then set about with some white spirit removing the worst affected section which were, below the door rubbing strip's, an area of about 100mm behind the arches up to almost the 2 o'clock position, the sides of the rear bumper and the rear face of the hatch!

It took me about three hours of gentle cleaning followed by three more applications of shampoo to remove the solvent but the result is a million times better.

I don not have Tardis at the minute funds are too tight to mention so I used what I could get my hands on and have used before.

Now the bulk of the paint is tar free I plan a clay session as son as things warm up then get the waxing coats, glaze's and polishes going on!!!

i am the same mate iv been cleaning the tar off the bottom of doors, bumper's i just been useing polish and a bit of elbow grease started 1030 this morning and i am still going just got one side to do can wate to its warmer so i can realy give it a good wax superguard in side and out but she starting to look good again should has some photos's later

So long as you washed the area thoroughly afterwards

I know I know, but being "in-between jobs" I don't have the readies at the moment but for one reason or another I want to get the car cleaned up and looking good. White spirit is pretty rough but if washed off PDQ is a good fall back option and it was washed off with three buckets of very hot, fresh soapy car shampoo and rinsed in-between.

At least with tar it won't get any worse, it just sits on the paint

i have been using panel wipe and find it better than turtle wax tar remover, just spray all the tar spots, leave a couple of mins and just wipe off. and as an added bonus i can 'borrow' it from work.
