5 series, 3 litre.
The one sensible thing David Cameron said in the election campaign was that he'd stop police wasting taxpayers money on premium cars. Looks like he hasn't gotten around to it yet....
yep
and a new top of range volvo estate in silver at j31 yesterday but couldn't get full reg....
no doubt i'll pass it soon afte which i'll pass it on under the flag
reducing public expenditure.
perhaps we could report all such expensive cars this way
I could understand it if the police used excuses like "Vauxhalls and Fords just aren't reliable or tough enough for us, we need to be able to depend on our vehicles" blah blah blah - but they have loads of Astras, Corsas, VXR Vectra etc, so why the need to add in luxury cars?
They say ignorance is bliss...you must be very happy.
did he say that? he's a bit misguided there imo. They're hardly using Merc SLS or BMW M5. Looks to me like the police are just using what is required for the job - obviously the traffic cars need to be quite powerful, and reliable. BMW 530d seems to be the current favourite, and I could be wrong here - but heard that the police get them at discounted price, cutting out unnecessary luxury options in many cases.
Can't see them saving anything by changing over to Vauxhall Insignia VXRs. The fuel costs would be much higher than the frugal yet powerful 530d for a start.
I see you resort to insults instead of even trying to make a reasoned argument. Classy.
Simple question: If a police force (such as where I live) have many Vectra VXRs as motorway patrol cars, why do they need to supplement that with (petrol powered) C-Classes and E-Classes? What do Mercedes cars provide that mainstream brands such as Vauxhall don't? Prestige, that's all.
This is what he said:

Well..it's better than typing ill-informed ********.
BMW 530d costs us 5% more than we were offered Insignias for. The Vxs were tested, when loaded exceeded weight limits, were unsafe at speed when fully loaded and the interior fell to bits after two weeks. Fuel costs vastly exceeded the BMW.
The BMW is a tool. It is used 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. They rarely go wrong. After 160'000m, they are still worth money at auction. You'd have to pay someone to take a Police Insignia with 160'000 miles away. So, in fact, the cost of the BMW is significantly less.
If you think that in this day and age, EVERY purchase isn't rigorously assessed, then you live in cuckoo land.
