GSi vs clio 172/182

Just curious if anyones ever had any experience of this?

Never personally raced one but got a few mates that always bang on about how fast they are.

Now personally i think no clio can ever come anywhere near as close to the luxury that my fully loaded vec has, and thats more important to me, but just wondered which is faster on the sprint?

now im guessing in the illegal speeds bracket the vectra will out perform a clio 172/182 due to having a much larger engine, capable of much higher speeds, but what about getting up to that? say the 1/4 or 1/2 mile for instance? not much in it?

There pretty rapid them little clio's mate and there only made of tin foil so I'd say up to the legal limits it would be very interesting, however as you go over the limit I recon the GSi would deffo have the edge.

Ye would deffo be interesting. Would love to know if anyone officially raced any. My gsi is an auto so would also be interesting to see that

The Clio 182 will do 0/60 in just under 7 seconds and top out around 135.. So they are certainly not sluggish

I'd say the Clio would have the edge, will easily out handle the Vectra and will be quicker off the mark, you may eventually get it on the straights when up to speed.

you will win, they will lose, it's a given.

from standstill if you get it right you will only be a small margin behind but once your in 3rd you will pull back in front, 4th and you've won.

When I had my GSi, my mate who has a renault r26 went from standstill up to 70 mph and I was half a car length in front . 0-60 r26 is 6.5 secs
My GSi was mapped and he did spin his wheels thought
Don't know the clio 182 0-60 but don't think it's under 7 secs
Sometimes it's not about stats, it's down to the driver

Right, last month me in my GSi and my mate Luke in his Clio Cup 172 (sure it's a 172) took a trip to Bedford Cruise, as you leave Luton there is about a mile and a half stretch of dual carriageway (A6) called the Barton cutting. We thought we would see how well both cars would go, from the start there wasn't really anything in it but once i'd got up to a certain speed i left him behind.
As said they are quick cars but being French and having plastic front wings i know what car i'd rather be in.

GSi - 7.0s

Clio
2.0 16V (182bhp) - 6.9s
2.0 16V (172bhp) - 7.0s

The Vec has the advantage that it doesn't smell of garlic, have a penchant for burning sheep & won't surrender at the first sign of a trouble.

I had a clio rsi a few years ago and found that all clios are pretty rapid BUT

1. a vxr will win

2. the clio will probably fall to bits/electrics pack up half way through as there built by renault

3. Mine had a built in shower, i mean sunroof that poured water down my back every time i braked
