    Default Silver Lightning

    Hi

Purchased front rear lower skirts and door sills, have had them painted by local spray shop but, they are a lighter shade. been back to sprayer and he sent me to their specialist paint mixer.
The chap that runs says there are 5 shades of silver lightning, he used "standard" which is the middle of the 5 shades.
He had the swatches of paint and tried them against car and said the middle was the nearest match???.

I have only fitted the sills as these just clip on.

Has anyone had a problem with having styling parts painted then not found them to match. If I put the skirts on it would look as if it had been in an accident and the value of the car would drop drastically.

I would have thought they can match paints exactly to the same colour???

If it was an insurance job it would be rejected.

Any feedback will help my case against the spray shop/paint mixer

the plastic parts when painted do end up a different colour to the main body of the car .......there have been several threads about brand new cars and how the bumpers etc dont match the colour of the rest of the car ...
cant he mix up some paint to exactly match ????

From my past experience, the colour of newly painted parts are always slightly off due to weathering etc of old paintwork, especially from independent local shops, unless you know the standard of their work beforehand. Obviously i havent seen your parts to say whether or not id be happy with the job though

The Paint mixer states that normally need to feather the adjourning body panels in to match ??? at approx £150 per side of car.

Two months ago i had Chip Away come and repair a small scuff in the centre of the front bumper and some stone chip on bonnet, cannot even see where he done bumper. They mixer whilst working on the car so a paint mixer should be able to mixer the shade to mix not just use the computer to mix the different quantities.

Will try to get some photo's later to put up so members can see difference

Looks like i need to go to another paint mixer and get the paint mixed then take parts back to sprayer to re-spray them.

Dont know if you're aware that paint code is on the drivers side door pillar on VIN plate...

Our car is Lightning Silver(or Silver Lightning) and referred to as 'Licht Silver' in the paint charts for 'GM Europe' Cars...

Ours is Lightning Silver Standard Shade - Code Z163 on the Vin Plate...

Photos below of parking sensors I fitted last year - I sprayed with a Spray Can of Cellulose Lightning Silver - mixed at a local motor factors where I work part time..Match I pretty good I think..

Plastic blanking grommets prepared, sprayed & fitted to check if colour match was OK,

then sensors prepared, sprayed & fitted

    Front.....

    and rear...

    Cheers

Need to get it sorted as i am due to go up to Exhausts UK to get dual exhausts fitted early part of September.
Have e-mailed local Love Your Car Franchise to see if they can mix the paint to match the car
