    Unhappy m.o.t time = fail!!

so my car went in for its m.o.t today. after failing for quite a few things on the last one that were put right, and covering just 2500 ish miles since last m.o.t i presumed it would sail through... that was not the case though, failed on excessively corroded brake pipes! gona cost me £150 to sort, looked through m.o.t from 2008 a year before i bought it and it failed due to excessively corroded brake pipes! is the possibility they were just cleaned before or changed? if changed should i be worried its going through them that quick?

must add it didnt fail last years m.o.t on brake pipes

Likelihood is that it originaly failed on individual brake pipes which would have been specified on the fail certificate. This time it's probably different pipes which again should be specified on fail cert.

Surely plastic pipes would do the job pressure wise, or is it the fact that brake fluid would corrode them?

Copper pipes suffer from brittleness over time and are banned in some countries e.g. USA. Cupro-nickel are the best.

Well it's all done now, £150 lighter!! Booked in for retest tomorrow, thing is though my m.o.t runs out today, if by chance police pass tonight and it's on the road, what's the likeliness I'll wake up to it gone in the morning?

Me too, though I have been finding out the Volkswagens claim "If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen" to be complete and utter rubbish with alternator and steering rack both going within two weeks on a 2004 50K mile car!
