Default What to look for when buying a 1.9 cdti 150

    Howdy folks.

I am moving from the world of the Veccy B 2.6 GSI to a Vec C 1.9 cdti 150 but need some info on the C.

Are there any things i need to look out for when buying a 1.9 cdti sri 150. Car i am after has got 50k on the clock and looks good from the outside but not sure what to be looking for under the bonnet of a C deisel.

Any hints on what i should be looking for.

    Cheers all.

Have a search for Swirl Flaps/Inlet Manifold, DMF, EGR these are the main issues, the first two can be £700+ to put right, so make sure the CDTi you are looking has either had these changed, or has a good warranty.

Take it for a good blast and check for low performance under 2k rpm.....very common for flat spots, indictaing EGR problems....etc!

haha that dont insipre confidence lol. Will check out the bits above. I can do all the work myself so will help with the costs if it goes pear shaped lol.

In terms of the 1.9 cdti 150 overall is it a decent engine or a bag of crap. First diesel i will have ever owned. Was looking at a golf or passat but you get muc more car for your money with a vec plus i have had a few vec b's so know whats what with vx. Just the deisel bit worries me.

Is it a big number of 150's that have issues or is it the same as all other cars as in there will be a small number with faults but majority are ok.

Driven both the 120 and the 150 and the 150 is so much faster than the 120. I think coming from a 2.6 gsi the 120 would bore me to death lol.

On the other hand 120's are a lot cheaper then the 150 and with a remap i suppose they are the same.

Any other 150 owners on here who can comment

mucker i have the 150 and (touch wood) i have only had the egr play up once nd that was just a clean out and that was fine after.
mine has covered 106500 miles and seems smooth as any diesel ive owned,
as for the power you would be right, coming from a 2.6 would be a big drop for a 120 ,the 150 is suprisingly bloooooooooody quick.
no matter what car you have muck there is a risk of them letting you down.
i think you know wot your gonna do anyway muck and its a good choice ,you have the knowledge as you said you can do mechs ur self .
good luck and good choice imho

the common problems that occur like egr takes 1 hr start to finish easy
the swirl linkage bar cost about 4 quid to fix
dmf yeah it a problem if abused and some people have been unlucky in the fact that dmf has let them down ,how many people have had there dmf changed and dint need it but just done it to save time when clutch has been changed

i love my car i really do (pmsl)

Put a tuning box on the 150 and bet your there nearly as quick as your 2.6 - they really shift. I would recommed one all day long

With a remap, id go so far to say as quicker! Ive had a vectra B 2.5, B 2.6 GSi and a 3.0 V6 converted B! My 1.9 with EDS map on would kick all their buts to 100mph! (and it pains me to admit that after what ive spent on V6s over the years!!)
