    Default NCDC2013 Problems

    Hi All

Looking for a bit of advice. I posted when i got my car that the Nav disk kept getting ejected. This is totally random as to how many times it happens, and normally, once the disk has been accepted and you switch on map mode etc, the Nav will work fine until the car is switched off again. Could this be a fault with the laser being mis aligned or something? Or would there be another fault which could cause this?

Also, the 4 disc changer, sometimes the disk 1 will not recognise the disc has been put in. That same disc would work fine in another slot, and it seems to be random which disc it doesnt like (all originals). Again, could this just be a laser fault or would something else contribute to this?

Just to clarify, the sat nav disc has a couple of minor marks on it, but nothing that should stop it playing or causing it to be repeatedly spat out.

    Thanks
    Tony

i suspect the unit is fitted with dual lasers 1 x for sat nav (probably a dirty laser stick a disc cleaner through it )

and 1 x for the multichanger

i suspect the multichager is having problems with the loading mech and may not even by loading disc one - do you get any error messages???

i would recommend removing the unit and stripping it and applying some light lithuim grease to the transport mechanisim this may help

    regards

    Hi Dez

    Thanks for your reply

Yeah i would presume there are 2 lasers as you can have both the sat nav on and also listen to any cd out of the multichanger at the same time. The error with the multichanger is an entirely random one, sometimes it recognises all discs fine first time, others it says error disc 1 and doesnt read that there is a disc in.

I have never taken a head unit out of a car, never mind apart, is this a simple task?

    Thanks
    Tony

    Tony,

    relativeley yes

but it depends on your level of experience and willingness to have a go

i would rate the removal as straight forward

the strip for the mechanisim is depenant on the access to the loading gears and cogs - (haynes manual level 3-4) if your not too sure then leave for a professional otherwise it will end in

if your not too sure ....do you have a local repair agent (someone independant small retailler - maybe your local garage can reccomend a repairer that they use) or another member local to you willing to strip and repair - i'm sure its a loading issue especially as its only disc one - and just needs regreasing

    Hi Folks

Just as a quick update to this, a simple cd lens cleaning cd was all that was needed to correct the single slot drive constantly ejecting the sat nav cd (thankfully) so if you have any trouble with that, before spending any money, just run a cd cleaner through it and see if that solves it like it did for me!

    Thanks
    Tony

I have the same issue....but a lens cleaner did not solve it.... it ejects any CD put in there...its started off just requiring the disc to be put back in again and eventually got tot he stage whereby I arrive at my destination still pushing the damn thing in!
Have since found CD reconditioing bloke specilaising in Sat Nav to look at it.. have yet to remove the unit though...will tackle THAT this weekend...

Pleased the lense cleaner sorted you ...makes me feel worse about mine though....

The guy replaced the laser £80 + postage.... and it works fine again! The bad news is the guy has got a full time job now so has stopped taking new business... shame.
