2005/2006 signum/vectra alternator issues

4 weeks ago the alternator failed on my '56 plate 1.9cdti & last week the same thing happened to my workmates '06 plate 1.9cdti

What annoyed me the most was no prior warning of not charging, drove from Leicester to Shipley & on the way back wwarning lights started coming on the dash ABS/ESP, followed by Airbags, IDS (electronic dampers), heater stopped, DAB box error, spanner, steering. At this point the power steering stopped working (bearing in mind I'm doing motorway+ speeds), I pulled on to the hard shoulder at the next exit to find I had a dead battery. Wouldn't you expect a battery warning light at some point? Got relayed from Wakefild'ish on the M1 to Loughborough. 1st alternator failure for me too, I did have the starter motor go in an Astra once

Good points, it's a company car so it didn't cost me a bean (69000 miles so out of warranty), I had a hire car for the next day which I dropped off at the airport on Saturday & picked another up on the following Monday, saved £30 in airport car parking

Makes you wonder where Vx are sourcing their inferior parts from these days!!
