    Angry Clunking door stay.

Anyone ever had their door stay making a clunking noise as it goes over the ridges on the arm? Mines being doing it for a while, but I just ignored it. Anyone got a price for a new one or a part No?

This isnt that un-usuall on a lot of cars. The check strap itself is seldom to blame, its usually the bolt holding the strap to the pillar is loose or the two nuts holding the strap to the door frame are loose....two things to check before you order one. HTH

The bolts on both my Signum and Vec door stay worked loose. Bit of thread lock and never had the problem again.

The clunking noise is the nylon rollers that roll over the shaped door stay, The roller stops rolling due to lack of lubricant and a flat starts to emerge on the roller itself and hence it doesn't roll but clunk, you can only see this if you take the unit off as its part of the stay thats inside the door. I took mine off and filed it round again, made it a bit better but replacement obviously better. will submit a piccy of stay if you wish to show you the roller.

Explains a lot, lubricating it made it worse in fact. I'll see how much it is from VX then see if there's a local scrappy where I can get one. Pic would be good please mate

Is it easy to get to once the door trims off?

Have you checked to see if the bolt is loose, first before you buy anything cus it's usually the problem 9 times out of 10

The bolts are fine on mine. It's as bygumlad mentioned when the roller passes over the door stay it makes the clunk as the stay has a profile on it to hold the door open.
