yeah its exactly how youve described it mate and yeah ive got a couple of inline fuses aswell like you prosumed i would have lol

i really didnt want any extra switches on the dash board seen as i intend on upgrading the interior coz mines pretty worn in places i didnt wanna put holes in my new dash when i get it

still not found a set of fogs i like tho haha its hard to find some that wont look out of place on the vectra
Well I've decided to go ahead with installing Front Fog Lamps with control along the lines that you did......

Decided to try and locate the Standard Facelift Vectra C NON Sport Bumper front fogs & inserts for our lower spec Club at the right price.

Not much information pr pictures on here on foglights that fit these lower spec cars. Not the 'Sexiest' ones for the 'C' according to the comments on here...

I trawled Ebay and found some after market Fogs for the car at about £35.00 each....very tempting compared with the Vxl original ones at over £60.00 each, but no inserts for them. The Vxl inserts were about £17.00 each....Decided to continue searching.

Eventually found genuine Vxl ones - new but old stock a couple of Vxl dealers were shifting at special prices...£ 20.00 each for the fogs with bulbs & £6.36 each for the inserts including VAT...postage for all Items about £10.00

Well I have & ordered them & am waiting with anticipation...

It was a hell of a job to confirm part numbers for them

Decided not to go down the path of swapping the existing front bumper for the Sport Front bumper fitted to the higher spec cars - Exclusive SRI Design, Elite as suggested by some guys on here.

Will post photos of 'em when they arrive.....& later, progress on fitting em.

    Cheers

Hi mikey...still making a list and collecting the parts I think I'll need ....

I plan to use a simple 15/20amp ON/OFF relay powered by the rear off side fog light feed using a suitable snap-lock connector & run a wire from this via a 1 amp line fuse to a terminal on one side of operating coil of this relay; which I plan to mount at a convenient point in the engine bay battery/fuse/ relay chamber, the other side of the coil being connected to a convenient earthing point...then take a main feed for the fog lamps directly from the positive battery terminal via a weatherproof 15/20amp weatherproof line fuse to one side of the relay switching contacts..the other side of which will be connected to the 'input' terminal of each fog lamp..the other terminal of each lamp then connected to earth/ground...

In theory all the circuits necessary to make them work will be in place, so when the weather warrants the need to use the rear fog light... operating the existing 'button' to switch-on the rear fog light will also energise the relay, so when its coil operates & the contacts close the front fogs should also switch on...I hope with no ECU/Tech2 issues which I understand you've tried without any issues ...

I plan to make temporary connections to try out the theory to see if there are any issues, before fitting the components..

The parts I ordered fog lights & inserts, have arrived from each of the Vxl dealers & were all correct...lights look pretty good to me...however one fog light was damaged when I opened up the parcel one of the fixing struts for the N/S fog lamp was broken ..

Contacted the dealer who I ordered it off after Emailing them with attached pictures of the damaged lamp...they are sending another at no charge...no haggling...and when I offered to send the damaged on back to them...they said don't bother...keep it for spares....I must admit I was very very surprised at this......

The only problem I now have is the fact that I fitted front parking sensors as part of a 6 sensor kit about 12 months ago with continuous cable runs from these front sensors to the module fitted adjacent to the rear N/S fuse/relay chamber in the boot....so removing the front for fitting the fogs raises a problem as there is literally no slack in the sensor wiring cable to allow easy removal of the front bumper.... however, I'm working on that one....

Photo's of the lamps & inserts to follow.....

    Cheers

    Hi Mikey..photo's below....

I found the pre-wired harnesses below when i did the parking sensors last year...but never found out for sure if the outer ones are for fog lamps of the headlamp wash/wiper kits...

& this one shows the new fog lamps....now they need fitting & wiring...hopefully along the lines we've discussed earlier in this thread...

    Cheers...

Following on from mine & mikey 362's previous posts....I have moved to step 2 with my installation of front fogs..i.e proving if the theory we posted works on our Facelift Club without ECU issues...photos are shown below...& preceded by some of the various quotes from guys kind enough to comment on our proposals...

If you dont mind them running off a seperate switch you could just wire them up yourself.

Low & Behold you've gone down the road I've been thinking about if I've read 'em right..i.e....

Operating the Front fogs at the same time as the rear fogs by using the existing single (rear) fog light switch.......i.e...

Rear fog light switch activates the rear fog..AND a 'switching relay' with Normally Open (N/O) contacts (say a rating of 15/20amps for 2 x 55W fog lamps), the operating coil of which is 'T'd off the rear fog lamp feed and connected to earth.......with the front Fog lights power coming direct off the battery to one side of the relay N/O contacts and the other N/O contact feeding the front fogs. The other side of the fog lights being connected to Earth/Ground.

Result.. Front & Rear fogs on together ..which is how they should be in my opinion...Both on together when the weather warrants 'em being on.... AND....No new switch, no Tech 2...

Only thing different I would make do is to including fuses which you have probably done....say a 1amp series fuse in line with the relay operating coil for some discrimination so as not to take out the 'main' fuse for the rear fog, and say a 15/20 amp series fuse for the front fogs to eliminate the chance of a severe short circuit directly off a the battery....

Any way....great stuff Mikey.....if I decide to do the Mod/Upgrade I let you know....

    Cheers
    Test Rig to prove theory....

Rear fog lamp feed wire ..black with blue tracer...used to power the switching relay....

All wiring connected albeit temporary to prove theory.....using a spare battery to power the old fog/spot lamp of my 1962 PA Cresta....

Result of switching the ignition ON....then operating the main light switch by turning it to the Headlamps On position....the pressing the rear fog lamp switch to turn that on...

BINGO!!!!! THE THEORY WORKS ...FRONT & REAR FOG LIGHTS ON BY SWITCHING ON THE REAR FOG LAMP FROM THE EXISTING SINGLE FOG LAMP SWITCH ON OUR LOW SPEC CLUB....NO ECU PROBLEM...NO BEEPS... NO WARNING LIGHTS.....NO NEW SWITCH...NO TECH 2...NO NEW ECU......ONLY A FEW POUNDS FOR CABLE, RELAY LINE FUSES, CONNECTORS ETC, AND A BIT OF MY TIME TO DO IT.....

Phase 3 will be to fit the new fogs etc...shortly now the theory appears to be sound...Nice one Mikey..

    Cheers

PS This is not meant to be a How 2....it's just TO show what I'm doing re fitting front fogs.....

confused Vectra C Fog lights upgrade

    Hi,

I have a Vectra C 2.2 Z22SE 2004 and originally my car arrived without the front fog lamps. I purchased on ebay the fog lamps, covers, cables and the front switch but they didn't work. I saw in a couple of threads that maybe a Tech 2 is need but i will like to have them worked without going to the car dealer to run the Tech 2. Can i have all wiring diagram for the fog lamps? Also by fitting them with the rear fog, what do i need to make run? Can make the panel light working or this something i can't use?

    thanks and Regards,

Hi ...As my car is one of the basic spec 'Facelift' model & yours is the 'pre - facelift' it may be just a case of getting yourst 'Tech 2'd' but other threads & posts on here suggest it could be more involved - ECU compatability amongst others etc as mentioned in my previous posts,....and because I didn't want the hassle of having to replace ECU's etc & then having it 'Tech 2'd...and it still may not work..I decided to wire them in my own way and so set up the test rig to prove my theory.....thus 'by passing the hassle of Tech 2

Your no doubt saw the feed wire from the rear fog lamp wiring to the switching relay in the previous photographs ..well below is a link to the 'power wiring for the fog lamps...

    http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showth...=1#post1392194

But please note this the way I decided to go to bypass the need for Tech 2 activation....
