Default Help - rear center seat belt locked

    Hi,

I need some help with my rear center seatbelt, i recently brought a dog and he is a large breed since having him i have been putting him in the boot with the seats down.

The problem is the center rear belt is locked, when i put the seat up its so tight the seat has to be slammed to lock it up. I have tried the gain access to the mechanism but failed and wondered if anyone has any advice ? my MOT is due next month and i gather it would be a fail ?

    Thanks

That's a complete PITA mate, I've had the problem before.

The belt normally has a plastic button which acts as a stop and prevents the belt retracting too far, sounds like yours has fallen off!

I know it sounds strange, but find a VERY steep slope, park facing upwards (this is also a great handbrake test!) and lift the seat back up until the belt releases. The mechanism has a ball bearing in which, unless it's sitting exactly on a very small "seat", jams the whole thing up and prevents the belt extending. Parking on a slope fools the thing into thinking it's fully upright when it isn't.

    Brought a dog?

Anyway. It sounds as if the mechanism has retracted too far.

Have you tried slamming the seat back (so the release handle is fully back) and then pulling the seat belt quite hard, releasing and seeing if it releases the lock and allows it to extend? This effectively tightens the winding of the belt inside the seat and gives the mechanism a little 'give' in which to release the locking lever.

When the seat is upright i cant even put two fingers between the belt and the seat , when the seat is down there is some slack in the belt and i have tried pulling it against the mechanism to try to get it to unlock with no joy whatsoever.

I have taken the rear bench seat out and exposed the nut holding the actual belt to the floor and thought about undoing that so at least i had some belt and room to play with but i was more concerned with actually getting access to the mechanism as i think thats had it.
