    Default which diesel engine?

Hi, I am looking to get a secondhand vectra estate as a load lugger for my wife to use. Can someone give me advice on whether to go for the 2.0DTI ( I have just viewed a smart 54 plate) or if I should go for the 1.9CDTI. Longevity and reliability, after running a Renault! are the main concerns. Thanks.

all i know about them is... the 1.9 has more power...(150 bhp) and is jucier, whilst the 2.0 is 98bhp and a bit better on mpg

Long and reliable 2.0 DTi or 2.2DTi, I'd say find a 2.2DTi myself

CDTi, faster but prone to failures if you get a dog.

Fuel not a lot in it 35 urban, 50 mixed.

The 2.0DTi is a really good engine, noisy, unrefined, but rarely goes wrong. As VV says, the 1.9 is a money pit if you get a bad one.

Thanks for your prompt responses, I have not had a great deal of vauxhall experience, I don't mind noisy and unrefined ( I won't be driving it!) I just don't want to splash the cash and then find out that the 2.0DTI has a long list of known problems.

It has a couple of prominent faults, nothing serious though

Injector spill pipes leak and it results in bad starting, so if you look at one and it takes a couple of times to start you should walk.

2.2's have turbo pipe coming off and crank pulley troubles, not all but some do.

I have had four 1.9 CDTi 150's and not had an issue with any of them. All high mileage too!

2.2 dti all the way, very economical, fast enough. Yes i had the usual problem off pulley wheel falling off, and rear shocks replacing but owned for 3 and half years now and other than above been very very reliable. Averages 50 mpg to and from work and 60mpg on the motorway.

not had any problems with my 2.2 dti, had it for 30k, seems a little low on mpg just lately (46.2 mpg) usually higher im just putting it down to winter.

All my cars let me down on is the imfamous wiper linkage failure.

Can also vouch it is fast (very impressive for a diesel) and its only noisy when its idling
