Default 6 & 1/2 yrs of happy Vec ownership about to end

After 6 & 1/2 yrs of happy Vec ownership (split almost equally between a 'B' 2.0 DTi LS H/B & 'C' 1.9 CDTi 150 SRI Est), the time has come to move on.

My current driving pattern requires something that can potentially better handle the increasingly bad recent winter conditions so in comes a 2007 reg (02 - 07 model) Volvo XC70 2.4D Estate with 36.6k miles in a weeks time well in advance. Got a good Px on the Vec (74.5k miles), almost 25% of the XC purchase price.

Both my Vecs have performed faultlessly apart from routine maintenance, including a wheel bearing on the 'C'. Hopefully the XC will continue in the same way. For me, a car change is always a bit of a sad time when the outgoing model has performed well and the incoming one is always an unknown. There have been a couple of times where I'm happy to be rid of a troublesome car but that isn't the case with either of the Vecs.

Reading through the Volvo forums, we have the same issues there as in here and some who love their cars whereas others can't wait to get rid of them, what's new there?

Hopefully, I'll still be allowed in here and even to attend the occasional local 'meet' with a 'non standard' car .

I will upload some of my own pics when I get it but for now, a few of the dealer pics of the actual car:

My old man had a V70 (the same beast without moster truck suspension) for a few years and it was a lovely car to drive and be driven in. I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

A set of winter tyres would have cost you a lot less than a Volvo XC70

I got the chance of driving one of these and they're superbly comfortable cars, like most Volvos are Didn't like the way it drove, but the engine was pokey enough and had the great 5 cylinder rumble to it

Yeah I did think about that option but with the Vec becoming 'high' mileage now and going up at 100 miles/day and the ready availability of this lowish mileage example, my heart ruled my head for just that bit too long .

The test drive was the first time I'd actually driven one but it drove much as I'd expected. With loads of youngish (06/07) in years, very high mileage examples of this version of the model around the dealers, hopefully reliability will overall be good, at least for 3 yrs or so. The same dealer had a further example, same colour, only 6 months older but with 90k on the clock. One wouldn't have known the difference in mileage by looking at internal and external condition.

The only 'down' I suppose was that the one purchased doesn't have the factory fit bi-xenon HID headlamp system.

We looked at those for the 4x4 option. Wendy test drove one after I took a dislike to the way it drove. Then the salesman pointed out I'd got it in "comfort" or whatever they call it mode, soggy suspension and slow pick up (opposite to sports on Vec). Wife put it in sport mode and thought it was great. But then I broke the Omega......
