    Default Brakes

When i apply the brakes to stop at lights or junctions you can hear the brakes rubbing and a slight creak/bang from the rear.

They work perfectly but i've noticed this noise can be heard from the outside as well as inside the car. My guess is just dirt or salt due to the car being sat at a dealers for a good few months before i got it, and both sets of pads were changed back in March at 30,000 miles. car has now done 51,000.

Could they be in need of a good clean or needing replaced already?

Is it like a little grinding noise form the back when braking at slow speeds?

In my experience, most of them do it at some point.
If you take them apart and give them a good clean up, it stops it for a while and then comes back.

    Never noticed a banging though!

I wouldn't call it grinding, and i've never heard it happen to any cars before...

Have you tried taking it for a "drive" my veccy sits on the drive for two weeks of the month the brakes are usualy a fair state when i get home so i take it for a proper blast to get the pads and discs cleaned up.

Maybe different thing then mate, mine (28,000 miles) makes a slight grinding at very slow speeds, only from the back.

A friend of mine has a 51 plate Astra SRI which does the same.

I would get it checked, better to be safe.

I'd check you haven't got a sticking caliper - may be not retracting properly and still rubbing the pads.

I had this on mine and didn't realise until it got really noisy, by which time the set of pads in question were down to the metal!

It only does town driving so it's stopping at junctions and lights most of the time. When i'm working it does a 3 mile trip down the motorway, sits for 8 hours then a 3 mile return journey.

    T4M,

Did your creak noise happen when you pressed the brake pedal and did it sound like it was coming from the caliper area?? Did you ever find out what caused it? I think im having the same problem just now.

    Cheers
