    Default Vec has gone

Following on from my previous post, I have traded the Vec in against a Mazda 6. It is a sad day.

Unfortunately, the Vec was beginning to become something of a money pit. In the past 4 months, I have had to give it a major service, replace front springs, replace wiper linkage, replace front brake disks and pads and also something on the front suspension/steering. All this cost well over £1000 and whilst I am aware some of that is wear and tear, it is more than I wanted to spend. The final nail in the coffin was the death rattle from the DMF. There is no way I am plowing another grand into the car so, it's gone.

The Mazda has proved to to be an excellent replacement so far! I do miss the torquey grunt of the Vec, but the Mazda has slightly more room, rides better and has a fantastic stereo (Bose). I think I also prefer the look of the Mazda.

I am sure I'll pop in here as the Mazda 6 forum seems much, much quieter. And besides, where else can I find out about how to spend all my money on detailing stuff!

Keep up the good work with the forum.

The Mazda 6 is a nice car, especially in MPS form. Good choice.

Thing is, once you've shelled out for the new springs and linkage on the Vectra it would have probably given many more miles of good service. As you say the brakes and service are consumables. The new owner will benefit from your expenditure.

    Can't comment on the DPF.

I think there's a certain amount of shared components though, having spent the last 2 days driving it, they've picked the ones that make the Mondeo handle so well!

I'm really hoping that the Mazda is more reliable than the Vec. I can't afford to spend ££££ maintaining it.

The dual mass flywheel was definitely on it's way out. The rattling had begun to get increasingly noticeable and I'm not ready to wait for the swirl flap problem to rear it's head. Someone else may benefit from my outlay, but I'm not going to line the pockets of a stealer repairing a car that I'd lost confidence in.

Excellent choice mate. I loved my TS2 untill some **** used it to stop his car.
I would have got another but fancied a change and got a vectra instead.
You will get no problems with it and enjoy it.
That Bose radio is fantastic. Working out the MPG is a little tricky due to it being in miles per litre. It is a Mondeo chassis but that is no bad thing and the stearing has a better turn in than the mondeo.
Fantastic and often over looked car which means you can pick up a bargain.
The Mazda forums are dead to be honest and it can take up to 2 days to get an answer for questions. They are either super reliable or mazda owners dont have computers.
