    Default Rear Fog lights

    Newbie type question but......

Why is the passenger side rear fog light not wired up?? There is a bulb in there. My brother who has a 3.0 CDTi was telling me that his had never worked and I thought that something was up with it, but when I swapped the back light cluster for the Lexus style lights I noticed that there is nowire going into the connector.
    That's on a september 03 GSi.
    Anyone any ideas??

It doesn't need to work thats why. Only the offside one is required. You can link it up from the working one if you wish. The veccy has a nice little system that if one bulb fails it will intensify another bulb to compensate

Basically, it is safer to have one side of the car illuminated during foggy conditions, so that following drivers can identify the brake lights easier.

Why Vx leave the bulb there is anyone's guess. Makes a handy spare though I suppose!

Yep your right in that it is handy as a spare. just think it's silly to go to all that trouble and then not wire it up

It's a european thing. that new cars only have one fog light on the offside. First mod I made I linked mine up so I have two rear fogs, simple job, took about 30mins I think . Read this link for a full explanation

My manual actually say that only one side works and the other side is a spare bulb.

I wired mine up too though, brake lights should be easy to spot since there is another bank of red LEDs in the middle of the car.

There may be a Tech2 option but i don't think it is for the rear N/S fog as there is no feed cable to the unit so pointless menu option perhaps it's there for cars that don't have fogs

Run a feed from one light across to the other one. The nearside fog has no cables running to it
