    Default Noisy brake discs

Is it just me or does the Vectra have noisy discs when applied. The majority of the noise seems to be from the rear discs when applying light to moderate pressure on them. Its like a grinding noise, I have had them checked by the dealer and they say nothings wrong with them, but I really don't believe that a noise like that is normal, or is it ?

The dealership will simply have removed the wheel, inspected the pads, and discs, regreased, then taken the car for a short test drive round the block

Sounds like the original discs have failed, quite common

Assuming the noise is at or above 40mph, ask the Service Manager to sit in the passenger seat while you find a suitable road and demonstrate
I did this by taking the Service Manager on a 5 mile trip to the M77, applying the brakes several times on the M77 and local road
    "I've heard enough, that's horrendous"

your joking the use a torch and look up from underneath while on a ramp they dont remove the wheel would take far to long, do not expect good service from a dealer

Depends on the dealership you use
I normally sit and watch what they are doing, and for brakes the wheels have to come off
I know some dealerships just do a visual inspection
Equally, for the interim service it is a visual inspection

The advantage with alloy wheels is they should ask where the lock is
My dealership always return it sat on the passenger seat, the wheels covered in hand prints!

The car is still under a 3 months approved Vauxhall warranty, so I think I'll take it to a local fast fit centre and get them to do a free break check and a report, then return to the dealer to try and get them to pay for the work that needs doing. Thanks for all the advice.

No, they will just turn round and refute it, may even ask you to leave and never come back...

As above, ask the Service Manager to witness a small test
If that fails, go back to the original sales person, and same again demonstrate it to them

Next would be a formal complaint to VX
That is when you get the independent brake inspection, but that will simply be measurements of pad and disc thicknesses
What you need is a witness to the noise, ideally someone else that can drive and is insured

OK, thanks, I'll get a drive arranged with the service manager or mechanic at Vauxhall then, I mentioned the grinding noise to them a month ago but they said it was nothing.

Yep, mine sound just like that, the worst as mentioned by markj23 its the nearside rear thats making the most noise (how did he know that) !! I'll report back and let you know what the noise was and which parts need replacing. Any ideas on how much rear pads fitted should be incase I have to pay for them ?
