Default Holy hell! Is this right???!!!

I thought the Vec was playing up somehow - the trip computer does seem to go a little strange now and again, but on a SUSTAINED run, where it wasn't having a funny half hour, this was the reading i got at 72mph in 6th with the cruise on - and no, this is not an elaborate trick or some newbie rubbish, i was baffled. Filled up on wednesday, the needle has hardly moved from 3/4. I use Redex in the tank, and Forte in the fuel filter, plus Castrol Magnatec in the engine, (sworn by this since the difference it made in the Mundano). Is my car a genetic freak???

I thought only those silly but cute VW Polo BlueMovie thingys were supposed to do this. The Mundano never got anywhere close!

    Answers on a postcard please.....

Loving the car more everyday, fitted some tweeters into the rear doors now, much better

    Cheers, Westy

The computers aren't the best way to see actual mpg.
Best way to get a true figure is fill up the tank and see how many miles you travel until empty, then divide by 13.4 (61 litre tank = 13.4 gallons).
Sometimes at 60 mph in 6th, you can get astounding mpg figures for a while, I know that.
See how it averages out over a tankful.

    Cheers for that, nice one.

I will try this and let you know what i find - i'm sure this may be a total one off, my Mundano seemed dismal by comparison, (but i do miss its incredible amount of shove in 4th, the Vec doesn't even come close, and it;s got more power on paper!). But the Vec looks and drives so much more civilised, lovely and quiet - and i love the starter motor sound, my mates dad has an Aston Martin that makes the exactly the same, (ish) kind of noise. Wicked

    I'll keep you posted......

    Cheers again

Looks like you've got a good one anyway. They aren't all the same.
Is yours the CDTI 120 bhp or CDTI 150 bhp?

Track 12 was blinding - my poor boy had to sit with his hands over his ears! Nah, seriously, it was Perfecto's Bullet in the Gun. Having a real blast from the past, used to DJ loads and loving the old dance classics! Sounds good in the Vec too, now i've upgraded the frankly nasty rear door speakers and put some tweeters in. Very easy to do, took an hour in all and the tonal match with the fronts is spot on. Sounds just as good, if not better than the Mundano now, (those extra tweeters sound great - on really good CD's the top end seems to 'dance' across the top of the dash ).

Anyways, to answer your question hideous, it's a 120bhp. But will be thinking of a power up next year. To be perfectly honest, i'm really happy the way it is. I've driven all manner of oil burners; Merc C220 CDi, BMW 320, Mondeo ST TDCi to name just a small few, all of these, (bar the Beemer) have the sameish output as the 150bhp SRI, and in 'real world' driving offer very little difference. The Fiat based engine in the Vec is a real cracker, if i really need more umph, then any suggestions as to where, how and how much would be great!

Loving the car still, washed and polished to perfection today. Will get some pics up this week to really show it off.
