I have recently put in some Mobil 10/40 Turbo Diesel in mine (£20 from Halfords) its not long life so will fit in with how regular you change your oil but is a tad thicker to offer a bit more protection and quitens the engine a bit too - mine has never run as well.

I believe you must use fully synthetic

5/30 fully synthetic is whats required. More expensive, but what the engine needs. Its also worth noting if you go to a parts supplier you'll probably pay a lot less for it.

You don't "have" to use fully synthetic at all, infact dependant on car age and mileage this can do more harm than good.

i understand from the stealers it also depends what service schedule its on also ie 20k miles or every 2 years for 5w30 or 10k miles 10w40 for yearly as i only keep the oil in there no more then 6 months would the 10w40 be ok

Yes, it will be spot on.

Mine was on the longer 20k service but the oil was like water (and who leaves oil for 2 years anyway) - I have changed it to the yearly service and change my oil (like you) every 6 months.
